Visit to the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) by Mr. KOBAYASHI Ryuichiro, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. (15 September)

On 15th September, Mr. KOBAYASHI Ryuichiro, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., visited the Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) and met with Mr. Pierre Fenech, CEO and Mr. Andrew Debattista, COO.
During the meeting, they reviewed the active exchanges between Japan and Malta in the field of tourism and exchanged views in a frank and constructive manner on ways to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
Japan and Malta are both renowned tourism destinations, blessed with rich cultures, histories and natural attractions. It is hoped that Japan’s culture of omotenashi and Malta’s strong tradition of hospitality will continue to learn from and enrich one another through greater people-to-people and educational exchanges.
ITS also contributed to the preparation of Maltese cuisine served at the Malta Pavilion during Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
ITS has also established an exchange programme with Kobe International University, with full-scale exchanges scheduled to begin next year. Several Japanese students are expected to come to Malta and study at ITS for two years. In addition, ITS is deepening its cooperation with Setsunan University and is actively contributing to greater mutual understanding between Japan and Malta through exchanges in education and tourism.
