Meeting between Mr. KOBAYASHI Ryuichiro, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., and Mr. Mario Cutajar, Chairman of Heritage Malta (28 August)

On 28th August, Mr. KOBAYASHI Ryuichiro, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., met with Mr. Mario Cutajar, Chairman of Heritage Malta.
During the meeting, Mr. Kobayashi commended Heritage Malta for the great interest attracted by the samurai armour displayed at the Malta Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, as well as for the large number of visitors to the exhibition held at Himeji Castle.
The complete set of authentic samurai armour was presented to Malta by the Japanese mission to Europe in 1862 as a token of gratitude following its visit to Malta. More than 160 years later, the armour was carefully restored to its original appearance by a specialist restorer in Japan. It has since become a shared treasure of Japan and Malta, telling many people the story of the long-standing ties between the two countries.
Mr. Kobayashi and Chairman Cutajar exchanged views on concrete ways to make further use of this precious symbol of friendship between Japan and Malta in the years ahead.
