Laying flowers at the Japanese Naval Memorial
On the 14th of April, Mr. KOBAYASHI Ryuichiro, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. visited the former Imperial Japanese Navy War Cemetery in Kalkara, where he solemnly paid his respects and laid a wreath.

He offered profound gratitude and tribute to the spirits of the fallen who rest in Malta, far from their homeland of Japan, and prayed for peace and stability in the international community.

He also conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to those who continue to maintain the cemetery in an exemplary state of cleanliness and dignity, such as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

This memorial commemorates seventy-one individuals, including the crew of the destroyer Sakaki, who lost their lives during convoy escort and other duties in the Mediterranean in the First World War under the Anglo-Japanese Alliance.
